About Susan Raef

WordPower founder and president Susan Raef is an award-winning writer, editor and marketing strategist with nearly 30 years' experience in marketing communications. She has developed B2B and B2C marketing campaigns for clients in both the corporate and not-for-profit sectors, and has worked with many trade and professional associations.

Her background encompasses health care, financial services, insurance and manufacturing, as well as safety. Susan's campaigns have won platinum and gold MarCom Creative Awards from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

Before launching WordPower, Susan was director of the American Medical Association's Department of Communications Services, where she managed a newsletter services unit and served as a communications consultant to more than 650 state, county and specialty medical societies.

She is the former assistant vice president of advertising for Sedgwick James Group Service, Inc., an insurance administrator to associations. At Sedgwick, she managed an in-house direct-marketing agency and won national awards from the Professional Insurance Mass-Marketing Association, including Best of Show, for her campaigns.

Susan holds a master of science degree in marketing communications from Chicago's Roosevelt University, a certificate in Web site project management from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, and a bachelor of science degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

She is a member of the Chicago Interactive Marketing Association, the Chicago Association of Direct Marketing and the Founders Circle of the American Writers and Artists Institute.
